Kabir Estatic Poems – Inspirational Quotations

Kabir composed in a pithy and earthy style, replete with surprise and inventive imagery.

His poems resonate with praise for the true guru who reveals the divine through direct experience, and denounce more usual ways of attempting god-union such as chanting, austerities, etc. Kabir, being illiterate, expressed his poems orally in vernacular  Hindi. His verses often began with some strongly worded insult to get the attention of passers-by. Kabir has enjoyed a revival of popularity over the past half century as arguably the most accessible and understandable of the Indian saints, with a special influence over spiritual traditions: Here are two of his estatic poems…

Oh friend, I love you, think this over

Oh friend, I love you, think this over
      carefully! If you are in love,
then why are you asleep?

If you have found him,
give yourself to him, take him.

Why do you lose track of him again and again?

If you are about to fall into heavy sleep anyway,
why waste time smoothing the bed
and arranging the pillows?

Kabir will tell you the truth: this is what love is like:
suppose you had to cut your head off
and give it to someone else,
what difference would that make?

I talk to my inner lover, and I say, why such rush?
We sense that there is some sort of spirit that loves
      birds and animals and the ants—
perhaps the same one who gave a radiance to you
      in your mother’s womb.
Is it logical you would be walking around entirely
      orphaned now?
The truth is you turned away yourself,
and decided to go into the dark alone.
Now you are tangled up in others, and have forgotten
      what you once knew,
and that’s why everything you do has some weird
      failure in it.

Kabir Poems – Inspirational Quotations And Poem

In this poem of paradox, kabir points out that the path of the saints is unusual. It avoids external observances and formal practices that people generally adopt for finding the Divine Spirit. Metaphorically speaking, Kabir says that those who take refuge in a ship, follow a smooth
highway or seek the shelter of large mansions fail to achieve their destination. Those who remain in the world and follow the practice of pilgrimage, alms giving, worship in temples and holyplaces, and those who renounce the world, retreat to forests, become recluses and take to penance’s

The devotee whose inner being is pierced by the arrow of Shabd attains true happiness. Those who have eyes for the world and its lures remain blind to the inner realms of spiritual bliss; those who have turned theirattention inward and have opened their inner eye see the Lord in the entire creation.

True Knowledge

Such is true knowledge, O friend-
Those who take refuge in a boat sink midstream;
The shelterless and forlorn, reach the opposite shore.

Those who take the arduous thorny path reach the town;
Who take the easy highway are robbed midway.
In one string all are entangled, be they worldly, be they recluse.

Those who take shelter under the edifice of forms and rituals,
Are rocked and drenched by the storm;
Who remain in the open, Are left dry and safe.

Those wounded by the arrow, Attain everlasting bliss;
They suffer pain and misery who remain unhurt.
Those without eyes see the entire creation;
Who possess eyes remain blind. Says kabir;
When I realized the truth, I saw the world’s strange character.

-Kabir

I’ve Been Thinking

I have been thinking of the difference between water
and the waves on it. Rising,
water’s still water, falling back,
it is water, will you give me a hint
how to tell them apart?

Because someone has made up the word
“wave,” do I have to distinguish it from water?

There is a Secret One inside us;
the planets in all the galaxies
pass through his hands like beads.

That is a string of beads one should look at with luminous eyes.

~Kabir

Master Kabir – Children Of Light

miniature

The Ascended Masters are our elder brethren, highly evolved souls, also known as the Illumined Ones or the Elect. Those who have incarnated on Earth have been teachers, prophets, leaders or creative artists. Because they have been so much more evolved than we are and have, therefore, seen life with Divine understanding they have acted and spoken differently from the average human being. As a result many of them have been martyred, ridiculed and put to death. Only subsequently have they been deified or turned into saints. They have paved the way for us and we are assured that as our turn comes to ascend we will have an easier passage.

In order to help us now many of the Ascended Masters are communicating telepathically with people whose vibrations are high enough to receive their messages. As more individuals are becoming enlightened and dedicating themselves to the spiritual path, the Illumined Ones are able to impress or channel through them great waves of light, hope, inspiration and truth. When we are ready for the responsibility which is inherent in working with the Illumined Ones they will guide and assist us in our evolution. In the past this is something that only happened to the very few who were aware and pure enough to tune in to their broadcast. Now it is available to us as soon as we raise our vibrational frequency high enough. These are some of the Ascended Masters on whom you may call for help.

Here’s a little about the Ascended Master Kabir

Six hundred years ago Kabir was born in India in 1398 AD. He lived for 120 years and is said to have relinquished his body in 1518. This period is also said to be the beginning of Bhakti Movement in India.

A weaver by profession, Kabir ranks among the world’s greatest poets. Back home in India, he is perhaps the most quoted author. The Holy Guru Granth Sahib contains over 500 verses by Kabir. The Sikh community in particular and others who follow the Holy Granth, hold Kabir in the same reverence as the other ten Gurus.

Kabir openly criticized all sects and gave a new direction to the Indian philosophy. This is due to his straight forward approach that has a universal appeal. It is for this reason that Kabir is held in high esteem all over the world. To call Kabir a universal Guru is not an over exaggeration. To me personally, the very name Kabir means Guru’s Grace.

I have been personally very deeply influenced by reading Kabir.  Kibir reveals my feelings and also, how this idea of my translating Kabir’s verses, came into its being.

Here is one of Kabir’s love songs along with the translation.

The Master is an expert Dyer, He has colored my veil

Removing the dark stains, he gave that color of love
By washing which fades not but becomes brighter by the day
Using water of affection in the tub of feelings, He poured the color of love
Rinsing away the bodily sorrows and dirt, the Expert dyed it deftly
The Master who dyed the veil is expert, beloved and great
I surrender everything to Him – Body, Mind, Wealth and Life
Says Kabir, The Beloved Dyer is benevolent on me
Covered with this cool veil, My being is blissfully fulfilled.

Explanation

In this wonderful love song, Kabir brings into focus the sense of completeness,  fulfillment and realization of the Truth within.

Most of the worldly acquisitions (referred as colorings) lose their luster over time. In other words, even though they may attract us immensely in the beginning, they lose their charm as time progresses. For example if we buy a new car, we feel so thrilled to have it as our possession. Even other people compliment us on our new acquisition. We take extreme care that it doesn’t get dirty, stained or scratched/bumped by another vehicle. But as time progresses, it slowly becomes just like any other possession we have.

Kabir, in this song, points out how a spiritual or inward-directed coloring is the only reality that actually grows in its beauty and luster with time. The veil, in this song, represents the sheaths of perception that cover our innermost being. These sheaths, in turn, are the mechanism of how we perceive reality. The coloring of spirituality (given to us by the Guru) indeed permeates all these sheaths. While normally our perceptions are covered by a myriad of worldly colors, the spiritual coloring, on the other hand, is unique, one-pointed and singular. That is, it replaces our dispersed perspective by a single color of love for God. This oneness removes confusion and cleanses the root of all maladies. And once an unalloyed clarity emerges even this color disappears, making us the display the glorious radiance of our inner being in all its purity and joy.

Only From Your Heart – Sathya Sai Baba Quotations

Only from the heart ♥ Can you touch the sky¸.•´♥ Rumi

My brother used to ask the birds to forgive him; that sounds senseless but it is right,for all is like the ocean, all things flow and touch each other; a disturbance in one place is felt at the other end of the world. It may be folly to beg forgiveness of the birds, but the birds would be happier at your side – a little happier anyway – and children and all animals, if yourself were nobler than you are now. It’s all like an ocean, I tell you. Then you would pray to the birds, too – in an all consuming love – that they forgive you your sins. Prize this ecstasy, however senseless as it may appear to men.-The Brothers Karamazov

When a person asserts that he is low and mean and that he knows but little, he becomes low and mean and his knowledge shrinks.We become what we believe we are. We are children of Almighty God, endowed with Supreme, Power, Glory and Wisdom.We are children of Immortality.When we dwell in this thought, how can we ever be low and ignorant?

Laying studies aside,

into a stream the books Kabir threw.

Out of alphabet letters – fifty-two,

he memorised RA-MA – only two!
